So, I'm a fan of StumbleUpon, that's what I do most of the day (that or watch DoctorWho or anime). I came across a little blurb that made me think. (sadly I didn't save it, so I can't refer you to it)
It said that the richest people in Germany were complaining that they weren't giving their fair share. They are saying that because they are so wealthy, they should be giving more in taxes to help keep their country afloat.
Now, why the heck aren't our wealthy doing that? We're a "Christian" nation, Germany is a "nazi" nation (no, not so much anymore, and they are ashamed of their past, but our "Christians" keep calling them evil nazis anyways), and we're refusing to help each other out. If I remember right, Greed is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. And what are the wealthy republicans demanding right now? that they shouldn't have to pay as much in taxes. They are being greedy.
We are a corrupt and greedy nation. We need to be more willing to help each other (nationally, and abroad). Despite the economy, we are still one of the richest nations in the world, we have most of the richest people in the world, and even our moderately lower class people make more money per day than much of the world makes in one year. Imagine saving up for a week to get one gallon of gas for your vehicle. Much of the world has to do that.
Welcome to capitalism, it allows for the rich to get richer (and not pay their share), and causes the poor and disabled to fall even further due to the fact that they can't get that little push off.
If you're wealthy, pay your taxes, don't dodge, that's a huge reason why our nation is in the dangerous place it is today. Germans are intelligent enough to figure it out, why aren't we?
If I were rich, I'd be donating money to schools (to pay teachers, not just build a new library or sports field), public services (fire, police, etc), and I'd pay taxes on what I make, not what I have after donations. That's what I would do.
